Chimney repair when all other contractors declined
Following on from a chimney fire the owners of this three story building in Enniscorthy contacted a number of local chimney relining companies to assess and carry out repairs to the chimney liner. The owners however, soon realised that due to the scale of the operation and the buildings proximity to a busy street none of those contacted were prepared to undertake the project.
It was obvious from the geometry of the building that a specialist relining company was required who had experience of operating in such circumstances. Action Chimneys were contacted and agreed to undertake the repair work. The erection of scaffolding alone presented a challenge as did the impact of the scaffold on the streetscape below. Health and safety is fundamental to any project we undertake with respect to the general public and to our own employees.
The building hosted had a public house as street level and the owner wished to carry on with "business as usual" while the repair work was being undertaken. We are delighted to report that our presence did not impact on the business in any way in fact out presence and our manner of operation during our stay in Enniscorthy emerged as the main topic of discussion on the premises.
REMIDEAL ACTION UNDERTAKEN
The building close proximity to the public road dictated that the scaffold we erected resulted with as small a footprint as possible on the pathway. We initially erected a tower on the pathway which rose to the third story. We then added a gantry walkway which spanned across from the tower over to the apex of the roof.
Once the scaffolding was in place we set about relining the damaged flue which was carried out in two days.
In total, the repairs to the chimney in Enniscorthy spanned four days, one day to erect the scaffold, two days for relining the chimney and a half day to disassemble the scaffold.
